Document and report safely
This general guide from SMAI Sentinel covers first steps after online harassment, threats, impersonation, scams or account compromise. It is not legal or medical advice.
1. Reduce immediate risk
Do not continue a confrontation under pressure. Secure the account from a trusted device, change reused passwords and enable two-step verification. If a child is involved, tell a trusted adult.
2. Preserve useful evidence
Save original screenshots, full URLs, usernames, dates, times and a short factual timeline. Avoid editing the source material. Do not redistribute intimate or illegal material.
3. Report through the right channel
Use the platform's official reporting tools. For immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In Israel, police emergency assistance is available at 100.
4. Keep a safe follow-up record
Keep reference numbers and copies of factual correspondence. Do not publish private evidence or personal accusations on social media.
